The New York Knicks signed star center, Patrick Ewing to a record 2-year $18.8 million extension.
Ewing still had 4 years remaining on his current contract when he signed the extension, committing to New York for the next 6 years.
He would go on to stay with the Knicks until 2000 before going to the SuperSonics in 2001 and retiring in 2002 with the Orlando Magic.
He struggled to stay healthy in his last 3 years with the Knicks, playing just 126 out of a possible 246 games. In spite of his struggles in his final years, his 11 All-Star appearances, Rookie of the Year award and his 7 All-NBA honors were enough to get him inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2008.
